One week to go

I fly out from Sydney in one week. I'm slowly getting everything sorted out for the move as well as the trip to America. When I planned this trip several months ago, I envisioned a solid month of rest beforehand. But life has a way of upsetting the best made plans. 

Today's weather is the opposite to yesterday's sunshine. We have a rainstorm with high winds and grey sky. It's cold and very very wet.

A little bird came to shelter from the storm.


He sat on my porch for half an hour while we talked and sang to one another. Though not a particularly beautiful bird, his song was melodious and uplifting, reminding me to be happy even when the storms of life surround me. 

I love the wild birds and have made friends with many different ones over the years. They are my only pets. I don't want to own them and confine them in cages. I am happy to see them fly off and enjoy their lives.
